Job Title: Goalkeeper Coach
Department: Technical Staff
Reports To: Head Coach
Location: Washington, D.C.
Job Summary:
The Goalkeeper Coach will be responsible for the development and performance of all goalkeepers within the USL team. This role involves planning, organizing, delivering, and reviewing goalkeeper training sessions in line with the club’s philosophy and coaching program. The coach will work closely with the Head Coach and other technical staff to ensure goalkeepers are fully integrated into the team’s style of play and overall strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Training and Development:
- Plan, organize, and deliver goalkeeper training sessions that align with the club’s philosophy and modern trends in the game.
- Develop and implement individual goalkeeper development plans.
- Conduct regular progress reviews and provide feedback to goalkeepers.
- Integrate goalkeepers into team training sessions to ensure they are well-coordinated with field players.
Performance Monitoring:
- Monitor and assess the performance of goalkeepers during training and matches.
- Use performance management platforms to record and analyze performance data.
- Conduct goalkeeper review meetings and produce individual player reports.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Head Coach and other technical staff to align coaching philosophies and strategies.
- Support the recruitment department in assessing potential goalkeeper targets and new signings.
- Collaborate with the loans department to monitor and assess goalkeepers on loan.
Logistics and Equipment:
- Manage the logistics for all goalkeeper training sessions.
- Ensure the maintenance and availability of training equipment required by goalkeepers.
Professional Development:
- Undertake continuous professional development (CPD) training and additional training as required.
- Stay updated with the latest coaching methodologies and trends in goalkeeping.
Ad Hoc Responsibilities:
- Assist with various tasks as needed to support the overall function of the technical staff.
- Be flexible in taking on responsibilities that may arise outside the typical scope of the role.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
- FIFA Goalkeeping Coaching License (highest level).
- Previous experience of coaching goalkeepers within a professional club environment.
- Strong mentoring and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Competent in using Microsoft Office, Apple Mac, and other football-related software packages.
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, welfare, and equality policies.
- Full driving license.
Desirable:
- UEFA Goalkeeping Diploma.
- Educated to degree level in sports or a related subject.
- FA Tutor status or teaching/coach education qualification.
- Experience with analysis software packages.
Key Skills:
- Strong presentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Flexible approach to working hours and conditions.
- Competent in video analysis and performance review.
Safeguarding and Welfare:
- Ensure implementation of the club’s health & safety, safeguarding, welfare, and equality policies.
- Maintain a safe working environment for all, particularly for children and adults at risk of harm.
- Undertake regular safeguarding and welfare-related training.
